FANCY yourself to be as cool as Google? Maybe you can buy one, or all of the 22 decommissioned Sydney monorail carriages up for sale on Gumtree right now.
Sydney man, Harry Tsoukalas is selling his 22 monorail carriages for $3000 each on Gumtree, or roughly what they’re worth in scrap metal.
Mr Tsoukalas told Fairfax Media that he was selling the monorail so he didn’t have to sell it for scrap metal.
“This is a Sydney icon and I don’t want it mashed up and thrown in with the scrap metal,” he said.
“It’s been part of our city for so many years.”
Mr Tsoukalas came into possession of the monorails due to his position at Metropolitan Demolitions, the company that removed the decommissioned system in 2013.
Google famously bought two carriages of the old monorail in 2013, which it converted into meeting rooms for the company’s Sydney office. They had to remove the facade of the building to even be able to fit the carriages in the building.

On top of the carriages Mr Tsoukalas and Google own, there are over a dozen on exhibition and located in museums across New South Wales.
So if you’ve ever fancied a monorail carriage to have as a man cave, undercover outdoor area or giant doll house, here’s your chance.
