A US Air Force veteran was left in tears after armed police raided his home while he was live streaming to nearly 60,000 viewers on a video game website.

Joshua Peters, aka Koopatroopa787, makes a living streaming his sessions of popular browsing games Rune Scape and Clash of Clans.

During a recent session on live streaming site Twitch, he fell victim to an apparent “swatting” prank — the act of prompting armed police to deploy to the residence of an unsuspecting prey.

The 27-year-old was caught unaware when police stormed the St Cloud residence he shares with his mother and younger brothers.

In a state of confusion, the gamer exited from view of the camera before returning visibly shaken some 15 minutes later.

On the verge of the tears, Peters addressed the remaining viewers on his stream and confirmed he had been a victim of swatting.

He said the anonymous caller had contacted police saying a gunman had killed somebody in the house before discharging a gun twice and hanging up.

Obviously infuriated with the situation, the gamer addressed his attacker on the live stream and has since posted the reply on YouTube.

“I see you posting my address. I had police point a gun at my little brothers because of you. They could have been shot, they could have died. Because you chose to swat my stream. I don’t give a sh — t about what you have against me, or what I did to you. For that I am at a loss for words. Your gripe is with me. But do not involve my family in this. They don’t deserve it,” he said.

The day following the attack, Peters told The Guardian he had no idea why he was targeted.

“There’s no possible persons who I can think would do something like this to me … I’ve seen this happen to other streamers, I just never thought I would be the one to get randomly targeted,” he said.

“My channel’s not crazy big, like some of these other mainstream streamers. I just didn’t expect that. I was going upstairs, and before I knew it, my face was on a tile on the ground, hands wide open and a bunch of police officers with assault rifles.”

St Cloud police department confirmed they had started an investigation to find the prank caller, although there are no clear suspects.
