WE all know trials can be misleading but surely this is the prep for EQUINE WIZ who looked more __like a multiple city winner than a seven start maiden in his easy win at Pinjarra on Monday.

The three-year-old has taken on a few smart ones in his short career to date so perhaps placed out of town he can get the confidence back.

He sat outside the lead in the 1000m straight trial, took over 300m out and after a quick shake put a big margin on them in good style.

JUST A FLUKE is also a maiden, from just one start, but he’s also a barrier trial champion with three unofficial wins on the board.

There were shades of the old champ Hay List about the way he carried himself and rolled to the lead mid-trial before bursting away with a big stride under double raps.

FILLE DE MERIT is an unraced filly whose trials date back to June last year and she was very strong late running on from the second half of the field to win in slower time than Equine Wiz.

But it was more about the style than the time and she should perform well when she debuts.

SWEET ORA is a high class filly warming up for another campaign and she’d lose no admirers for a close third in her heat where she was always about two lengths off the lead and closed the gap late.

She’s won six from 10 so far and will be competitive in whatever she contests.

The winner of her heat was SCOTTISH TRADER and there’s no knock on her effort though she did have a mixed winter/spring prep last year.

Second-up has been her best form so far so perhaps keep her safe on debut and assess for her second run.

LET IT SLIP usually trials well and performs fresh and she gave no indication that would change this time in with a very controlled fourth.

She raced midfield with cover, took a couple of bumps and was held together while working to the line a couple of lengths off the winner.

A few others to note from Pinjarra are COLOUR WITNESS, PIC’S PRIDE and BLACK SCANDAL.
