You can’t make this stuff up.
UFC star Demetrious Johnson has deepened a UFC race controversy by linking a colleague’s complaints with Danielle Bregoli, better known as the “cash me ousside” girl.
Johnson has suggested Bregoli would be a top draw phenomenon in UFC after responding to claims athletes are promoted differently in the UFC, depending on their race.
UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley in January claimed he was under-promoted by the fight category despite his impressive performances in the Octagon.
Woodley identified Johnson, the flyweight champion, as another black athlete who he believes has been somewhat mistreated.
The current top-ranked pound-for-pound fighter in the UFC was reluctant to enter the debate sparked by his friend Woodley’s claims, but admitted if his colleagues feel mistreated then there may be a valid motivation for their perceived grievance with UFC officials, including boss Dana White.
In an appearance on the MMA Hour, he light-heartedly suggested Bregoli would be a huge hit with UFC fans and officials.
“I guarantee you if you get her some gloves and put her in the Octagon, she would be the highest selling pay-per-view fighter in the world,” Johnson said.

“She’d probably do way more numbers than Ronda (Rousey). Just because she brings drama and negativity to wherever she goes.”
He went on to say he does not feel he has been treated any differently to anyone else in the UFC.
But that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. “I don’t want to say it’s an issue, because obviously I’ve been promoted very well as the flyweight champion,” Johnson said.
“But can I say that people might feel there is? Yeah, probably people feel it. But I don’t think Dana White has ever been like, ‘I’m not gonna look at that (expletive), he’s black. Get somebody else in front of me.’ I don’t think Dana White is doing that. But I’m saying if people feel that way, it’s possible that some people feel that way. That’s just how it is.
“If I were to say that’s never came into my mind, I’d be lying to the world.”

He said Woodley’s grievance with the UFC industry is centred around the contrasting marketing potential of athletes. He said athletes with more dramatic star power are generally being favoured over athletes delivering big performances in the Octagon.
“As an athlete you have to sit back and think like, ‘Why won’t they push my work? I’m an analyst, I’m a husband, I’m a father, I don’t do drugs. I never disrespected anybody on a big level. So why won’t they promote me, but they’ll promote this guy?
“Do you think it’s because I’m black or is it because he’s white?’ That’s where he’s coming from. I totally understand it, because as an athlete and as an African-American, you have to sit back and think about that.”
His decision to drag Bregoli into the debate is far from the teenager’s most confusing appearance since she became an internet sensation over her performance on US chat show Dr Phil.
Her outburst, which created an instant catchphrase — “catch me ousside, how bow dah?” — has seen her become an overnight sensation with more than 7.2 million followers on Instagram.
She has also starred in a music video by an artist named Mook Boy. She’s been busy.
Pictures of her glamorous “makeunder” as promotion for the music video circulated last week.
