RAIN “flash-freezing” on roads, sidewalks and commuter train platforms has made travel hazardous in the Northeastern U.S., leading to several highway closures and accidents that claimed at least four lives.
State police in Philadelphia say a crash involving 30 to 50 vehicles on an interstate highway early Sunday killed one person, and two others died in a crash involving multiple vehicles on another interstate highway. In Connecticut, police cited slippery conditions in a crash that killed an 88-year-old woman.

Freezing rain and snow was expected in interior parts of the North-Eastern New England states. Along the coast, fans attending the AFC Championship Game between the New England Patriots and Indianapolis Colts can expect rain.
On the West Coast, high winds left tens of thousands of customers without power in the Seattle area, where the Seahawks are playing the Green Bay Packers in the NFC title game.
