US Open runner-up and men’s fifth seed Kei Nishikori brushed aside Spain’s Nicolas Almagro 6-4 7-6 6-2 this morning.
There are high hopes for the Japanese star after his impressive finish to 2014 but he faces one of the trickier draws in the men’s tournament.
If results go as expected Nishikori will have to defeat David Ferrer (fourth round) and Stan Wawrinka (quarters) just to reach a semi against tournament favourite Novak Djokovic.
But first he’ll play the winner of the Joao Souza-Ivan Dodig match which has just started on court 20.
