Giving your Valentine a fitness tracker is not a backhanded gift if it looks like this. Fashion designer Tory Burch’s Fitbit jewellery range finally ships to Australia and it includes this solidly built, stainless steel bracelet in silver or gold. The 1.5cm wide bracelet can house a Fitbit Flex console inside a hinged compartment that snaps shut, while its open fretwork shows the device’s lights indicating progress towards your step goal. The bracelet is substantial and wearers will probably want to swap back to a plastic wristband during workouts.
Samsung Level Over

Samsung Level Over high-end headphones. Source: Supplied
Samsung is not a brand synonymous with headphones but that could change with the Level Over cans. The white and tan leather over-ear headphones immediately impress with comfortably thick padding and a solid build, but the technology inside makes them more attractive. That includes wireless music play over a Bluetooth connection, active noise cancellation, and a right-hand touch panel for changing volume, swapping songs, and accepting calls. Noise cancellation is effective if not comprehensive, and sound is helped by a 50mm driver and built-in equaliser. Run out of battery power, and they can be used with a cord.

UE Megaboom portable speaker. Source: Supplied
Just as John Cusack held a boom box over his head to serenade his 1980s love, modern day romantics could spark up the Megaboom that delivers just as much volume. An update on last year’s Boom, this wireless speaker now offers volume up to 90dBA, as well as noticeably more bass, up to 20 hours of wireless listening, and an improved wireless streaming range of up to 30m from its source. The Megaboom is also waterproof this time, allowing dunkings in up to 1m of water for 30 minutes, though it is heavier and larger than its predecessor.
Sony SmartWatch 3
Sony / 3.5/5 / $299 / sony.com.au
Sony SmartWatch 3. Source: Supplied
Sony’s smartwatch is all grown up. Its third iteration is much slicker than early models, with a metal-backed console, and rubber wristband that look and feel sophisticated. The watch itself is powered by Android Wear, delivering the watchfaces, calendar notifications, step-counting, and app updates with which users will be familiar. This smartwatch adds a GPS chip to the mix, however, letting running users track their progress on maps. It omits a heart-rate monitor and a speaker for taking calls hands-free, however, and its 1.6-inch screen is neither as clear nor as bright as that of its rivals.
GoPro 3-Way

If you’re planning a Valentine’s Day to remember and you only want to carry one GoPro mount, this is the versatile model to choose. Its tri-fold design extends into a 50cm stick or it can be folded up to a 20cm handle, with a small tripod that screws out of that handle. You can keep the 3-Way folded up for a stable handle or extend it towards your feet for great tracking shots as you walk. The arm is waterproof and its collapsible design means it’s easy to fit in a bag.
